Online Science-athon/How Tall Am I?
Step 1: Find Out About the Challenge

How Much Time Is Required?

You should allow approximately 10-12 hours of class time to prepare for and complete the How Tall Am I? challenge. First, you need to enroll your class and collect the necessary materials. Then students create, test, and refine their methods for measuring height. Next comes Measuring Day, data sharing, and analysis.

Here are a few suggestions to help you maximize the time you have available:

  • Introduce the challenge in class and have students create and test their methods for measuring height outside of class.

  • Have students work in small groups to develop methods for measuring height.

  • Set aside a few hours during a morning or an afternoon to carry out Measuring Day and submit data.

  • Assign a group of students to enter and send data during free time.

  • Retrieve and analyze data in small groups as time permits.

  • Combine the activities into a few long days.
