Online Science-athon/Marble Roll
Step 1: Find Out About the Challenge

How Does the Marble Roll Support the National Science Education Standards (NSES)?

Content Standards: K-4

  • Science as Inquiry, A, "Students employ simple equipment to gather data and use data to construct a reasonable explanation. [They] develop understandings about scientific inquiry [and realize] scientific investigations involve asking and answering a simple question and comparing the answer with what scientists already know about the world" (page 123).
  • Physical Science, B, "The position of an object can be described by locating it relative to another object or the background. An object's motion can be described by tracing and measuring its position over time. The position and motion of objects can be changed by pushing or pulling. The size of the change is related to the strength of the push or pull" (page 127).
  • Science and Technology, E, "Students should develop abilities to identify a simple problem, propose a solution, implement a proposed solution, evaluate a product or design, and communicate a problem, design, and solution" (page 138).
